Callaghan Tire - Five Alarm Fire

On May 18, 2017, the Manatee County Medical Reserve Corps responded to a five alarm fire at the Callaghan Tire company in Bradenton, Florida. The MRC was requested to provide emergency medical rehabilitation to over 80 firefighters and other responders. Eleven volunteers responded and established a rehab station consisting of the Medical Aid Station Trailer (MAST), two tents, two cooling chairs, two misting fans, chairs, tables, and other miscellaneous equipment. In addition to operating this station, the team supported operations at a second rehab station.

Passenger Aircraft Disaster Response Exercise

On March 20, 2017, the Manatee County Medical Reserve Corps participated in the PADRE exercise at the Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport. Our unit, along with members of the Sarasota MRC, set up a responders rehabilitation station near the scene of the incident, just as we would if the event was real.

2017 Bradenton Area River Regatta

On Saturday, February 4, 2017, the Manatee County Medical Reserve Corps was activated to assist Manatee County EMS at the 3rd annual Bradenton Area River Regatta. Tens of thousands came to watch Formula 2 power boats to hydrocross jet skis on the Manatee River. The MRC operated two mobile aid stations and two mini emergency response vehicles.

Thunder by the Bay - 1/7/2017

The Manatee County MRC was activated to support EMS operations at the Thunder by the Bay motorcycle festival at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, FL. Over the first weekend in January, 7,000 bikes and 25,000 spectators came to the sports park to listen several tribute bands and visit over 100 vendors. Despite the cold conditions, MRC volunteers staffed and operated two medical aid stations and two mobile response units.

Bradenton Blues Festival

On Saturday, December 3, 2016, the Manatee County Medical Reserve Corps (MCMRC) was activated for the Bradenton Blues Festival in downtown Bradenton, FL. The festival drew over 3,000 spectators over a ten hour period. The MCMRC brought a team of ten to staff their Medical Aid Station Trailer (MAST), their Mini Emergency Response Vehicle (MERV), as well as having a team walking around the event.

Hurricane Matthew - October 2016

On October 6-7, 2016, the Manatee County Medical Reserve Corps assisted the Florida Department of Health in Manatee County set up and staff a special needs shelter for those seeking refuge from Hurricane Matthew. Six members contributed over 70 hours for this event! Great job everyone!!

Lincoln Middle School Demonstration

On October 26, 2016, MRC Coordinator David Skau and MRC Member Michael Zimmermann conducted a CPR and First Aid demonstration to students at Lincoln Middle School in Palmetto, Florida. The students were part of the Agriscience and Future Farmers of America class. They stressed the importance of scene safety and dialing 911 as soon as possible, and provided an overview on crucial steps they can take to save one's life.

Community Garden Grand Opening

The Florida Department of Health in Manatee County celebrated the grand opening of its community garden. The garden is called Manatee Square Garden and several local officials came to the garden to share in the celebration. The MRC assisted with logistics, including setting up tents and chairs, assisted with parking, and anything else that was asked. Great job team!

Centerstone 5K - 2016

The Manatee County Medical Reserve Corps provided medical stand-by for the Centerstone 5K on Saturday, September 24, 2016 in Palmetto, FL. We staffed two medical aid stations, utilized our mobile emergency response vehicle (MERV), and had a medical team on foot walking around Sutton Park after the race.

DOH-Manatee Community Cleanup

On Wednesday, June 15, the Florida Department of Health in Manatee County participated in a Community Cleanup around the DOH-Manatee Campus. Due to the high temperature and high humidity, the Manatee County Medical Reserve Corps operated a hydration station was on standby for a medical related emergencies.

Special Needs Shelter Pods Inventory

On Friday, June 24, the Manatee County Medical Reserve Corps assisted the Department of Health in Manatee County with inventorying the Special Needs Shelter Pods. These pods are used to store all of the equipment needed to operation a shelter.

Bradenton Farmers' Market

The Manatee County Medical Reserve Corps staffed an informational booth at the Bradenton Farmers' Market on Saturday, May 14, 2016. During the event they handed out literature on hurricane preparedness, as well as Zika and other mosquito born illness prevention.

Body Mechanics Training July 2014

During a hurricane evacuation, shelter workers are often assisting clients with various activities. Shelter worker safety is always the highest priority! This Body Mechanics training helps prevent injuries to MRC members and the shelter clients they are assisting.

In addition to Fire Departments, EMS, and Law Enforcement, the MRC was invited to respond and establish a Responder Medical Rehab Station at the Passenger Aircraft Disaster Response (PADRE)exercise at the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport.

ArtSlam 2014

The Manatee County MRC participated in a MRC First Aid Station Live Exercise on Saturday, March 8 for the Art Slam Festival in downtown Bradenton. The festival featured dozens of artists, musicians, performers, installation art, and interactive art experiences. Manatee MRC members were ready to provide first aid treatment to community members in need. Members assigned to this mission were responsible for the set-up, activation, and/or break-down of the MRC First Aid tent.

LECOM Tour & Dinner, February 20th, 2014

Our very own LECOM members invited fellow MRC members to their campus for dinner followed by a tour of the facility. Members were able to explore the facility, see an Osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) demonstration, ask questions, and network with each other.

Southeastern Guide Dog Walkathon 2014

The MRC successfully deployed its very first tent-only First Aid Station on Saturday, February 22 for the Southeastern Guide Dog Walkathon in Riverwalk. MRC members provided first-aid services for people AND pets.

Medical Aid Station Live Exercise: Blues Festival 2013, December 7th 2013

The Manatee County MRC was requested to deploy and operate a mobile Medical Aid Station at the 2013 Bradenton Blues Festival at the Riverwalk overlooking the Manatee River. MRC members assigned to this mission participated in the set-up, activation, and/or break-down of the MRC Medical Aid Station.The MRC successfully operated and treated patients for minor injuries. Live exercises/deployments help the MRC train and learn now, so they are ready to respond during times of disaster.

Anna Maria Island Privateers Pirate Invasion, November 2nd, 2013

The Manatee County MRC was requested to deploy and operate a mobile Medical Aid Station at Coquina Beach for the Anna Maria Island Privateers Pirate Invasion. The event drew approximately 10,000 people throughout the weekend. 80 vendors provided food, art and other items as well as music and kids' activities.

Radiation Training, September 14th 2013

MRC members were trained to assist with population monitoring after a radiological incident/event, such as a severe transportation accident, a nuclear power plant accident, or detonation of a radiological dispersal device or an improvised nuclear device.

CPR Class - August 17th 2013

MRC members learned to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR to victims of all ages, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner. The course was taught by two certified MRC members and the MRC coordinator.

Founding 50 and Achievements 2012

MRC Founding 50 and Achievement Awards - Oct. 2012The more MRC members get to know each other, the better they will be able to work together during disasters. The Manatee County MRC has grown quickly, with over 70 members as of October 2012. A combination of team-building, pot-luck dinner, and recognition for the contributions of our AWESOME team of volunteer members made for a great time!

MRC Mass Casualty Drill 8-2-11

On August 2nd, 2011 the Manatee County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) was invited to participate in a multi-agency drill which included the Sheriff Department Bomb Squad, Fire, EMS. HazMat, Emergency Management and others. The scenario was depicting the aftermath of two bomb blasts with many casualties and wounded, with local resources are stretched. The MRC deployed their Medical Aid Station Trailer and team and assisted EMS with accountability, treatment, and ongoing assessment of the "walking wounded".

On July 11th, 2011, the Manatee County MRC held a training on the Medical Aid Station Trailer. During this 3 1/2 hour training, they learned and practiced how to deploy, set-up, operate, and demobilize this unit to support a Medical Aid Station.
